Superintendent Message – August 4, 2020

All of you should have received a message from your child’s school last evening, describing what our initial plans are to implement Comprehensive Distance Learning. Principals will be updating you on the specifics for starting school on September 1st over the coming days and weeks. Some of you may be wondering how this fall will be different from last spring’s Distance Learning 4 All.

Our Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) plan will include the following improvements for students and families:

  • Real-time school day with teacher(s)
  • A daily and consistent school start and end time
  • Specific times scheduled for each period/subject
  • A blend of live instruction, applied learning, and independent activities
  • Specialist & elective experiences for all students K-12
  • Set times for intervention support and contacting teachers
  • Use of Google (K-12) and SeeSaw (K-2) as the district-wide digital platform
  • Chromebook check-out available for every student, and at some point
  • Limited in-person instruction provided for small groups of students upon meeting public health metrics

Expectations of families:

  • Ability to access internet connectivity
  • A dedicated learning space where children can concentrate on their live lessons
  • Space and time to complete applied learning assignments
  • Engage in two-way communication with your child’s teachers
  • Access student work and progress weekly if not daily
  • When your child is unable to participate in a live session, insist they login to the taped lesson to keep up with their peers as soon as possible

Our ultimate goal is to get students back into our buildings, but that will take time and everyone’s efforts to curb COVID-19. Please do your part to stop the spread of the virus. Only when we meet the new public health metrics will we be able to have students back in school. Until then, we are committed to our very best for “every student, every day.”

Todos ustedes deberían haber recibido un mensaje de la escuela de su hijo anoche describiendo cuáles son nuestros planes iniciales para implementar el Aprendizaje a Distancia Integral. Los directores lo actualizarán sobre los detalles para comenzar la escuela el 1 de septiembre en los próximos días y semanas. Algunos de ustedes se estarán preguntando cómo será este otoño diferente del Aprendizaje a Distancia Para Todos de la primavera pasada.

Nuestro plan integral de educación a distancia (CDL) incluirá las siguientes reformas para estudiantes y familias:

  • Día escolar en tiempo real con maestro (s)
  • Un horario de inicio y finalización escolar diario y constante
  • Tiempos específicos programados para cada período / materia
  • Un préstamo de instrucción en vivo, aprendizaje aplicado y actividades independientes.
  • Especialista y experiencias electivas para todos los estudiantes de K-12
  • Establecer horarios para el apoyo de intervención y contactar a los maestros.
  • Uso de Google (K-12) y SeeSaw (K-2) como la plataforma digital de todo el distrito
  • Salida de Chromebook disponible para cada estudiante, y en algún momento
  • Se proporciona instrucción limitada en persona para grupos pequeños de estudiantes al cumplir con las métricas de salud pública

Expectativas de las familias:

  • Capacidad para acceder a la conectividad a Internet.
  • Un espacio de aprendizaje dedicado donde los niños pueden concentrarse en sus lecciones en vivo.
  • Espacio y tiempo para completar tareas de aprendizaje aplicadas
  • Participe en una comunicación bidireccional con los maestros de su hijo
  • Acceda al trabajo y progreso del estudiante semanalmente, si no diariamente
  • Cuando su hijo no pueda participar en una sesión en vivo, insista en que inicie sesión en la lección grabada para mantenerse al día con sus compañeros lo antes posible.

Nuestro objetivo final es lograr que los estudiantes regresen a nuestros edificios, pero eso llevará tiempo y los esfuerzos de todos para frenar COVID-19.  Por favor, haga su parte para detener la propagación del virus. Solo cuando cumplamos con las nuevas métricas de salud pública podremos tener estudiantes de regreso a la escuela. Hasta entonces, estamos comprometidos con nuestro mejor esfuerzo para “cada estudiante, todos los días”.
