Superintendent Message – September 21, 2021

As we return from Round-Up week, I would like to take a moment to thank all of our families for a great opening of the 2021-2022 school year.   Although we experienced a few hiccups, overall, I couldn’t be happier with the cooperation and attitude of our students as they returned to school.

Secondly, let me remind everyone of the everyday and frequent things we are doing at all levels to keep students and staff safe.  If these look familiar, they were originally shared on August 26th.  Please keep in mind that all of these are recommended by the CDC and other national health authorities.  They include:

  • Keeping students distanced to the extent possible, including:
    • Classrooms
    • Recess
    • Outdoor settings
    • Music and PE
    • Meal times
  • Wearing face coverings,
  • Encouraging good hygiene,
  • Practicing good respiratory etiquette,
  • Minimizing the sharing of equipment,
  • Safety and health reminders posted throughout each building,
  • Use of hand sanitizers in classrooms, common areas and entrances, and
  • Frequent cleaning of common areas.

In addition, please do not send your child to school when they are sick.

Since the virus is still prevalent in our area at elevated levels, please keep in mind the four primary symptoms of COVID; 1) loss of taste or smell, 2) cough, 3) fever or feverish, and 4) shortness of breath.  If you or your child have these symptoms, I would advise you to contact your primary care provider immediately.

Finally, if you use home test kits and should the results indicate you or a family member is positive, you should isolate and contact Umatilla County Health Department.  The UCoH has the legal authority to determine who and for how long a person(s) should quarantine in the event of a case or contact.  Students who are required to quarantine cannot return to school without official documentation from the Umatilla County Health Department.

We are excited to have your children back in school, and despite the challenges before us, we know this is the best place for them to receive their education.  Here’s to a great school year!

Respectfully,
Chris Fritsch

Respetuosamente,
Chris Fritsch
